Putnam Teens Participate in Better High Day 2019-Living a Drug Free Life at SUNY Purchase

The Putnam County Communities that Care Coalition partnered with the Westchester Coalition for Drug and Alcohol Free Youth and Youth Decide, to promote a YOUTH CREATED AND FACILITATED event to celebrate teens and young adults who are committed to living drug free, healthy lives. The free event took place on the SUNY Purchase Campus, on Columbus Day, Monday, October 14, 2019.

Better High Day 2019 is a first of its kind event and celebrated teens and young adults with professional speakers, comedians, and activities related to music, dance, art, physical fitness, sports, and creative expression. Olivia O’Connor, youth member of the Putnam Communities That Care Coalition and Carmel High School junior took the lead for Putnam County by recruiting 12 Putnam County Teens from Carmel, Brewster, and Ridgefield High Schools to plan and facilitate the Putnam County Dance Challenge, a tremendous success and crowd favorite at the event. “It was so amazing to be the Communications Director of this event, creating a social media presence, planning the Dance Challenge with my peers, and just having fun while inspiring and empowering kids to live drug-free lives”.

There were over 50 youth leaders from Westchester and Putnam who facilitated the event! Free food, prizes, and give- a-ways were made possible from donations by New York Presbyterian Hospital, Patterson Dj, Scott Yaremko (aka DJ Scottso), and other corporate and private donors.
