How Program Registration Works

We've been getting lots of questions lately about our program registration process. Here's the scoop...

Our classes are very popular and we are a small library with very limited space. We would love to be able to accommodate everyone in every program. Unfortunately it is just not possible.

As a result, a registration procedure was developed to give residents of the Reed Memorial Library District preference in class admission. Having a Carmel address or zip code does not place you in the library district. The surest way to know if you are in the library district is to look at your property tax bill. If the Reed Memorial Library and a tax levy amount is listed, you are paying taxes directly to support the Reed Library and are a resident of the Reed Library District.

It is reasonable that residents of the library district receive preference in admission to classes because they are directly supporting the library through a special tax levy.

Though our registration process gives preference to Reed Library District residents, classes typically include participants who do not live in the Reed Library District.

When someone registers, their name, address and the date and time they registered are recorded. Names and addresses are checked against the tax rolls we receive from the county and admission is determined with library district taxpayers getting preference. Once all library district residents are admitted, the remaining seats are filled going down the registration list starting with whoever registered earliest until all seats are taken.

Our small staff works hard to come up with interesting programs the community will enjoy, to fit those programs into our budget and to figure out how those programs can be accommodated in the space we have. We hope you will continue to register for programs (the earlier you register the better your chances for getting in!) and look forward to seeing you in the library.
