Are you ready to get in control of your home? Maybe you have tried to organize your things only to end up with a mess a few weeks later. Don’t despair!

HamletHub met with the owner of Complete Home Organizing, Kristi Cassels. As the owner of Complete Home Organizing, Kristi empowers her clients with manageable, personalized solutions to match their lifestyle.

Tell us a little bit about yourself

For over a decade, I worked as a floral designer in New York City. While I truly enjoyed my profession, I yearned to create a business that would provide a more lasting effect that would enrich people’s lifestyles. I started out by helping family and friends organize their homes and designing spaces to match their way of life, making a difference in their lives by fashioning beautiful homes for their whole family to enjoy.

How do you help people organize their homes?

I transform a home into an ideal living environment. I listen to my clients carefully and ask questions about their lifestyle. I like to find a creative way to find the perfect place for items that will be convenient for them. When things are placed in convenient locations, people can easily pick them up and replace them. Matching the best solution to each individual’s style is the key element in Complete Home Organizing’s process.  I work to design an organized space that can be maintained with your unique lifestyle. I don’t just organize a home; I help families stay organized so that they can continue to enjoy a clutter-free home.

What are the biggest challenges people face when organizing their homes?

First, I see people struggling with what to put where. Clutter is just unmade decisions. They are so overwhelmed they don’t know where to start. I help clients who suffer from decision fatigue. We work together to make those tough decisions easier.

Secondly, I find people won’t ask for help because they are afraid of being judged. I respect my clients and treat them with kindness. You can be confident that I will not pass judgment.  I understand the frustration and discomfort people have when their home is messy and unorganized. Do not let the fear of judgment hold you back from having an organized living or workspace.

What types of spaces do you organize?

I organize homes and offices. In the home, I help clients with garages, closets, children’s playrooms, kitchens, attics, and basements. Often things are placed in one room that ideally should be placed in another. I offer advice on unique storage ideas regardless of the room.

Is there a big trend happening in home organizing?

I am finding more people downsizing and moving. I am noticing that older clients or families with elderly parents require assistance. Having someone come in that doesn’t have an emotional attachment to the items can provide clear advice. In addition, my experience will speed up the process.

Organizing prior to a move can save people money on moving expenses because many moving companies charge by the pound. I suggest purging while packing. This way you can donate what you don’t want prior to moving. Unpacking and organizing items after the move will be much easier and faster.

What is your favorite organizing tip?

My favorite organizing advice is: Less is More!

The less you own, there is less to organize, less to clean, less stress, and less debt. I see people struggling to find the things they need, wasting time and energy. I often hear the phrases “I forgot all about it” and “I didn’t even know we owned that.” Those are big indicators that they really don’t need the item.
