SUNY Oneonta athletics is closing out the 2019-20 year by recognizing five women and five men as top performers. Today is day 4 and we are recognizing senior Ahken Chu (Patterson).
Ahken Chu capped a brilliant career for the wrestling team with his best year as a Red Dragon.
Chu collected numerous honors enroute to compiling an overall record of 37-6. Chu recorded 16 tech-falls on the season, which was tied for the most amongst Division III wrestlers.
Chu's season was highlighted by capturing the New York State Collegiate Wrestling title at 141 pounds becoming only the second Oneonta wrestler to accomplish the feat. In the process, he became the first Red Dragon to be selected as the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the annual tournament.
Chu also won the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference title at 141 pounds to earn All-Conference honors. He was runner-up at the RIT Invitational and earned All-Region status with his fourth place finish at the NCAA Mideast Regional championships.
SUNY Oneonta supports 21 varsity teams and is a member of the SUNYAC Conference while competing at the NCAA Division III level. The Red Dragons have enjoyed a long history of success athletically celebrating National Champions and All-Americans along with Conference, Regional and National Players of the Year. Oneonta student athletes compete on state-of-art athletic facilities while enjoying modern locker rooms.
