CALL TO ACTION: TRANSPORTATION REIMBURSEMENTS
Act now! Tell your state policy makers to ensure school districts are provided reimbursement for all transportation costs incurred during the pandemic. On November 6, the State Education Department released a memorandum confirming that transportation expenses incurred by districts during the period of time schools were required by the Governor to go remote and develop plans to distribute meals for students – mid March through the end of the school year in June 2020 – would not be eligible for transportation aid. Statewide, this may result in a loss of approximately half of a billion dollars in state aid. For Carmel, it could be $1.7million in lost aid. We are calling upon our community to take action by completing this online form.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING SCHOOL MEALS
The federal government has issued new nutrition standards for meals served to America's school children based on the Dietary Guidelines. The new standards set strict regulations for portion sizes, yet offer a wide variety of different fruits, vegetables, proteins and grains. We are always working to offer CCSD students healthier lunch meal choices.
SCHOOL MEALS AT NO COST TO FAMILIES THROUGH JUNE 2021
The USDA, New York State Child Nutrition, and the Carmel Central School District will serve breakfast and lunch meals (including Grab N Go meals) to all students enrolled in CHS, GFMS, KES, KPS and MPES at NO COST to families through the end of June 2021. This provides much needed financial relief for families as we continue our re-entry to the 2020-2021 school year. Please note that this applies only to breakfast and lunch meals, and does not include snacks or "a la carte" items.
PARENT GRAB N GO PICK UP OF SCHOOL MEALS
In accordance with our current reopening plan, school meals will continue to be available to all students enrolled at CHS, GFMS, KES, KPS, and MPES regardless of meal eligibility. Visit the Grab N Go Meals webpage to apply and for more information.
Meals for 1/21, 1/22, 1/25, 1/26: Pick up is Wednesday, January 20, 2021, from 3 - 5 p.m. in the GFMS rear parking area. Meals to be distributed:
- Cohort A: 2 breakfasts & 2 lunches
- Cohort B: 2 breakfasts & 2 lunches
- Remote: 4 breakfasts & 4 lunches
