People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction on cruelty charges of the person(s) responsible for the condition of a severely injured dog who was found alone on the roadside.
According to the Putnam County SPCA, a good Samaritan found the dog—an older, unneutered brown-and-white American bulldog mix—lying on the side of the road near the intersection of Sodom and Brewster Hill roads at approximately 4 a.m. on Sunday. They rushed him to a 24-hour animal hospital, where a veterinarian found that he was so underweight that his hips, spine, and ribs were visible and that he had a broken bottom jaw, severe dental disease, masses inside his mouth, long toenails, swollen paws, and an untreated necrotic mass on his rear.
“This dog’s body was rotting away for lack of veterinary care,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA urges anyone with answers to come forward so that whoever left him to suffer in so much pain can be held accountable.”
