The Office of Consumer Affairs, Weights & Measures/Trades Licensing & Registration partnered with the Office of Senior Resources to provide outreach to senior citizens in the form of informational lunchtime sessions to educate and inform residents on the requirements of contractors/tradespeople working in Putnam County.

A total of four sessions were held on the following dates: October 5th at the Koehler Center in Mahopac; October 19th at the Putnam Valley Senior Center: November 3rd at the Friendship Center in Carmel; and November 9th at the Cold Spring Friendship Center.  The presentations were given by Joseph Baldanza, Code Enforcement Officer for the Office of Consumer Affairs and focused on consumers’ rights when hiring a contractor or tradesperson in Putnam County.

Mr. Baldanza discussed various topics such as the mandatory licensing of plumbers and electricians and registration of home improvement contractors in Putnam County; the reasons for licensing/registration; the listing of licensed/registered contractors on the Consumer Affairs website; contracts for proposed work; contract payments; insurance and bond requirements of contractors; and required permits.  The presentations concluded with a question-and-answer period.
