Brewster High School Student Recognized for Saving Grandfather’s Life

Brewster High School sophomore Timothy Kolka was recently recognized for saving his grandfather’s life. School Resource Officer Joseph Sadowski presented Timothy with a certificate in the presence of his family and Brewster High School staffers.

“The reason everyone is here today is because of Timothy's actions,” Officer Sadowski said. “With a clear head and bravery, Timothy called 911 and got his grandfather lifesaving care. We want to recognize him for his good work.”

Timothy was home alone with his grandfather, James Rea, when Rea’s heart stopped.

“He fell and then he was unresponsive,” Timothy said. “I tried to get him up but I couldn’t. It was just pure adrenaline.”

Timothy called 911 as well as his mother, Jennifer Rea, who rushed home from work. Once she got there, Timothy waited outside to flag down the ambulance.

“You did a really good job,” teacher Michelle Villano told him. “You were really brave.”

Jennifer Rea said she does not think her father would still be alive if Timothy wasn’t there that day. James Rea has since gotten a pacemaker and continues to recover at home.

“I feel pretty good now,” he said.
