and Executive Director, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 49

On February 1st, 1968, Dan Griffin arrived in Vietnam. At almost the exact same time, the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese People’s Army of Vietnam had launched the Tet Offensive.  Officially known as The General Offensive and Uprising of Tet Mau Than 1968, this offensive would be the largest military operation conducted by either side up to that point in the war. The main attack would eventually include 80,000 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Troops and would see more than 100 towns and cities come under fire, including 36 of 44 provincial capitals as well as the southern capital city of Saigon.

Hanoi believed that the offensive would trigger a popular uprising leading to a collapse of the South Vietnamese government and a quick end to the war. Dan only knew he was in a world of trouble.
