Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival’s 2019 summer season.

The season includes Shakespeare’s boisterous Much Ado About Nothing and adventure-filled Cymbeline, alongside the New York premiere of Cyrano, a new adaptation of Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac written by Jason O’Connell and Brenda Withers, in a co-production with Two River Theater (Red Bank, NJ). HVSF will also produce its first-ever musical, the Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine classic, Into the Woods. The season runs through September 8 at Boscobel House and Gardens in Garrison, New York.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

Scandal abounds in Shakespeare’s hilarious, biting comedy about lies, courtship, and the chaos created in pursuit of true love. The famous bantering lovers, Benedick and Beatrice, trade barbs while matching wits (and hearts) in this celebrated romantic romp.

The cast will feature Charlie Semine* as Benedick and Tina Chilip* as Beatrice, as well as performances from Kendall CafaroccKayla Colemancc, Jon Cookcc, Brandon Dialcc, Michael Early*, Jose Gamo, Stephen Paul Johnson*, Sean McNall*, Kurt Rhoads*,Timiki Salinascc, Stephen Michael Spencer*, Alexandra Templer*, and Ryan WashingtonccMuch Ado About Nothing will feature costume design by Valérie Thérèse Bart, lighting design by Oona Curley, sound design by Nathan A. Roberts and Charles Coes, and props design by Joshua YocomNellie McKay is the composer / music director and Roxana Khan will serve as production stage manager.

Performances run through August 31.

 

CYMBELINE

Cymbeline, king of Britain, mourns the loss of two sons, stolen at birth. Meanwhile, his daughter and heir Imogen plans to marry her true love Posthumus while Imogen’s evil queen stepmother works to put her own son on the throne. In this fantastical work from the twilight ofShakespeare’s career, all the elements of a great fairytale combine to lead the play’s heroine to her happily ever after.

The cast will feature Kendall Cafarocc, Tina Chilip*, Kayla Colemancc, Jon Cookcc, Brandon Dialcc, Michael Early*, Jose Gamo, Stephen Paul Johnson*, Sean McNall*, Kurt Rhoads*, Timiki Salinascc, Charlie Semine*, Stephen Michael Spencer*, Alexandra Templer*, and Ryan Washingtoncc.  Cymbeline will feature choreography by Tracy Bersley, costume design by Charlotte Palmer Lane, lighting design by Oona Curley, sound design by Nathan A. Roberts and Charles Coes, and props design by Joshua YocomRaymond Bokhour is the composer / music director, Rod Kinter is the fight choreographer and Roxana Khan will serve as production stage manager.

Performances run through July 27.

 

CYRANO

Longtime HVSF company member Jason O’Connell leads a five-person cast as his own Cyrano, the brilliant thinker, wordsmith, and swordsman. He’s meet-the-parents material, and everything his one true love, Roxane, should want. But this sophisticated suitor smells a complicated courtship ahead…

The cast will feature O’Connell* in the title role, Britney Simpson* as Roxane, and performances from George Merrick*, Luis Quintero*, and Nance Williamson*. Cyrano will feature scenic design by Kristen Robinson, costume design by Jessica Wegener Shay, lighting design by Paul Toben, sound design by Palmer Hefferan, and props design by Joshua YocomJanelle Caso will serve as production stage manager.

Performances run through August 30.
