Carmel Plans a Parade for State Champs

The Carmel community will come together to celebrate the NYS Section One AA Champions, Carmel High School Rams on Saturday, December 11 with a parade through the center of the hamlet, the County seat.

The Carmel High School Rams won the state football championship on Saturday, December 4 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse. The team was undefeated all season and easily beat their opponent, Buffalo’s Bennett Tigers, to capture the Class AA Championship title. It is the first time the Carmel Rams, or any team from Putnam County, has won the state championship.

“This win is so exciting for the team, the coaches, the fans and our community,” said Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell. “We hope everyone comes out and helps celebrate the incredible achievement of the Rams and their coach, Todd Cayea.”

The Putnam County Championship Parade Committee, made up of proud Carmel High School graduates and community leaders, is organizing the event. The committee is asking anyone who wants to participate to contact District 5 Legislator Carl L. Albano at Carl.Albano@putnamcountyny.gov, or Putnam County Tourism Director Tracey Walsh at Tracey.Walsh@putnamcountyny.gov.

Saturday’s parade will start at 11 a.m. at Reed Memorial Library and continue to the Historic Putnam County Courthouse.

The Rams finished the season 13-0, and outscored their opponents 512-81
