Cuomo: NY wil set up Covid-19 test sites at NYC Area Airports.

Governor Andrew Cuomo, in a press conference on Long Island Monday, said that NY State will set up Covid-19 testing sites at both John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia Airport in NYC.

“We’re actually setting up testing sites at our airports. We’ll be able to do faster testing of people coming in, including hospital staff," Cuomo said.

Cuomo said the coronavirus testing sites at JFK and LaGuardia will be set up by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and New York City Health + Hospitals and also operates the City’s Clinics and Public Hospitals.

After being hard hit at he beginning of the pandemic NY has lowered its daily infection rate to  amongst the lowest in the nation. The state has also implemented a mandatory 14 day isolation on travelers from states with high infections rate.

Travelers who do not comply with the state’s order requiring travelers to file a contact tracing form upon arrival in NY could face a fine.

Both New York City and NY State have been cracking down on travel from these high risk states for weeks, asking airlines to hand out the forms, mandating hotels have their guests fill them out, and setting up checkpoints at bridge and tunnel crossings in NYC.

The Port Authority of NY & NJ, who own and operate the area's three biggest airports (Newark in NJ along with JFK and LaGuardia) have been working with local and state officials regarding the testing sites but Cuomo did not give specific details as to when the sites would ready to operate.

in a related development, the CDC updated its travel requirements online Friday, advising travelers to "follow state, territorial, tribal and local recommendations or requirements after travel." Previous guidelines recommended a 14-day quarantine for those returning from international destinations or areas with a high concentration of coronavirus cases.
