Energized New Board Sees ‘Sky’s the Limit’ for Hudson Valley Gem

Patterson, New York – Camp Herrlich (“Camp”) is pleased to announce Phil Norman as its new Chairman of the Board. Norman, a British born businessman, accepted the position at the organization’s annual meeting in January. Born and raised in England, Norman first came to the U.S. to work at the Camp in 1988.  He also spent time in Aleppo, Syria, and Hong Kong for various business ventures and thus brings a multi-cultural view to the Board.

“It is a pleasure to take over as Chair of an organization that has such a dynamic Board and motivated conscientious staff. The leadership of key personnel and board members is what allows the Camp to continue being a vital, vibrant, and healthy part of the community, despite weathering recent turmoil, including the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. We all owe a huge thank you to Dave Haar, former Chairman of the Board, for his stewardship over the past years and literally a lifetime of dedicated service to Camp Herrlich,” says Norman.

“I’ve taken great pleasure in the leadership roles I have participated in over the years and am very proud and confident in turning over the Camp to Phil and the incredible Board we have assembled,” says Haar, who has been involved with the Camp since 1971.  Haar will serve as Board Secretary and will continue to Chair the Governance Committee.

Executive Director Dean Stichbury says “I have known Phil for many years, and I am excited to see our organization’s future under his leadership. Phil has a pragmatic and thoughtful approach that fits seamlessly with the new Board composition, and I believe we will continue to flourish with Phil as the new Board Chair.” Stichbury, born in New Zealand, came to Camp in 1993. He is among the diverse leadership team that call Camp home.

The Board of Directors, which recently expanded from 12 members to 18, some of whom have been campers themselves either as a local member of the community or as a part of the coalitions formed through various other communities serving NYC.  The Board is composed of a diverse group both in stature and geographics: from educators, law enforcement, management consultants, accounting, legal counsel to entrepreneurs working and residing within the local communities and New York City.

“As we prepare to ‘turn the page’ on a challenging yet ultimately successful 2020, we look forward to outlining our strategic plan for the years ahead. We have a strong foundation on which to build. Camp Herrlich offers programs supporting the local community and NYC-based kids, as well as retreats for adults and families. The dedication and purpose of our full-time staff and summer hires has a real impact on the lives of our campers. The challenge going forward is to address how we can expand our capacity and programming to impact the lives of even more individuals,” says Ted Marzilli, Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee and CEO of YouGov Direct, a division of the global market research firm YouGov plc.
