Town of Southeast Cultural Arts Coalition Presents Update on Restoration of Old Town Hall

The Town of Southeast Cultural Arts Coalition is hosting a press conference on the restoration progress and future plans for the Southeast Old Town Hall (OTH) at 67 Main Street, Brewster, NY, on Friday, October 12, at 10 a.m.

Built in 1896 and on the National Register of Historic Places, OTH is home to two not-for-profit organizations: The Southeast Museum since 1963 and the Cultural Arts Coalition since 2011. The Cultural Arts Coalition presents and hosts concerts, theatrical productions, exhibits, book readings, workshops, rehearsals, and classes in the basement at the Studio Around the Corner.

The top floor of OTH is truly a hidden gem: a more-than-a-century old theater with exquisite wood work, incredible acoustics, a classic stage, balcony, dressing rooms, etc. The OTH theater has been closed for more than thirty years.

OTH is the “Jewel in the Crown” of Brewster’s Main Street, and a keystone in the revitalization of the Village of Brewster. The Cultural Arts Coalition, in cooperation with the Town of Southeast, is spearheading the restoration and the reopening of the theater. Once the OTH theater is again operable, it will serve as an ideal venue for plays, concerts, films, and other community events, as well as a catalyst for economic development.

Together, the Cultural Arts Coalition and the Southeast Museum will be stewards of this magnificent building and of a vibrant cultural hub that will help to foster revitalization.

The Cultural Arts Coalition is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation dedicated to celebrating the community with transformative, inspiring arts experiences at OTH and at special events such as the Brewster Music Festival and the Brewster Fall Festival.
