Target lifts mask requirements for staff and shoppers

Target has lifted its mask requirements for both customers and staff members.

An announcement was made this week on the big box chain's coronavirus dashboard, located on its website.

The reason given was simple — fewer cases.

"The health and safety of our guests and team members have been Target's top priority throughout the pandemic. As COVID-19 cases continue to decline across the country, Target will not require our U.S. team members or guests to wear masks, as local regulations allow," the announcement said. "We'll follow all state and local COVID-19 safety regulations and encourage our team members and guests to consult the latest public health guidance, get vaccinated and make decisions to keep themselves and their families safe."

Though masks are no longer a requirement, Target said in a statement that it will continue to encourage social distancing and regular disinfection protocols within its locations.

The company said it will continue to monitor public health guidance and reevaluate its response as needed.

Target's website says it still reserves an hour each week on Tuesday for vulnerable guests to do their shopping safely and that its in-store pharmacies offer N95 masks for free, as part of a Department of Health and Human Services program.
