Byrne Announces $100,000 Peaceable Hill Water District Grant

Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R,C,I,Ref-Mahopac) announced his procurement of a $100,000 grant through the State and Municipal Facilities Program to support funding of the Peaceable Hill Water District. The project, which is scheduled to be completed this fall, represents a major step forward in Byrne’s collaborative efforts with local officials to improve Southeast residents’ access to clean drinking water.

Byrne previously discussed this grant at a Town of Southeast board meeting in December 2017. More recently, the lawmaker followed up with state leadership to ensure this funding would be available to support the ongoing work on the Peaceable Hill Water District in as timely a manner as possible.

“This Peaceable Hill Water District Grant clearly illustrates the positive results that can be achieved through bipartisan collaboration, and I am thrilled to be able to play a role in supporting the efforts to increase the Town of Southeast’s access to clean drinking water,” said Byrne. ”I will always pursue opportunities such as this which bring back our residents’ tax dollars to fund valuable infrastructure improvements in our community, and I look forward to seeing the continued benefits from this important project.” 

“When the town approached Assemblyman Byrne to see if there was any state funding available for the Peaceable Hill Water District Project to offset the financial burden of this Project on the residents within the Peaceable Hill Water District, Assemblyman Byrne was very forthcoming in asking us what we needed and accommodated the town’s request immediately, which resulted in this $100,000 grant,” said Supervisor Tony Hay.  “The town and the residents of the Peaceable Hill Water District greatly appreciate Assemblyman Byrne’s efforts in helping to reduce the substantial cost of the overall project.”

It’s always a pleasure being non-partisan,” said Councilwoman Lynne Eckardt during December’s town board meeting. “Thank you for not wasting money on a giant check, which is one of my least favorite things. I’m really happy for the district, and I’m very grateful, so thank you.”

Byrne has been a major proponent of both local and statewide infrastructure improvement projects throughout his first term in Albany, having previously advocated for the timely completion of the much-needed repaving project on Route 6 in Carmel, among several additional local initiatives. Byrne’s commitment to these efforts was recently recognized with an appointment to co-chair the Assembly Minority Task Force on Critical Infrastructure and Transportation.
