Maloney’s Statement on Supreme Court Decision Protecting Dreamers

This week, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled the Trump Administration cannot end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, protecting DACA recipients, also known as Dreamers, from deportation. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) released the following statement:

“Dreamers are our friends, neighbors, and coworkers. They make our country stronger, and the Hudson Valley a better place to live.

“These young people have done everything we’ve asked of them – they work hard, give back, and stay out of trouble. Dreamers pay taxes, contribute to our economy, and serve in our military. And in times of crisis, our Dreamers are there to help. Nearly 30,000 DACA recipients are health care heroes, and have battled the coronavirus on the frontlines in communities across America.

“The Supreme Court’s decision rejecting the Trump Administration’s attempt to end DACA is fantastic news for our Dreamers – but the Senate still needs to pass the American Dream and Promise Act and give the 180,000 Dreamers in New York a pathway to citizenship. America is home for our Dreamers, and now the Supreme Court agrees - we need to protect the dream.”
