Trump Asks Supreme Court To Protect His Personal Twitter Page

President Trump last week announced he is taking his personal Twitter account fight to the Supreme Court. Trump has long been a user of the social media platform to voice his opinions on his personal Twitter @realDonald Trump and he’s dealt with a lot of trolls. So, he does what most people do if they’re harassed on Twitter, he blocks them. Several recent lower court rulings have now ruled that doing so is a First Amendment violation as he is a public official.

Trump will ask the Supreme Court to reverse those decisions as the account is his personal account that he's been using since long before taking office and that all of his tweets are available on the White House page, @White House and @POTUS, both of which are official Government accounts which the public is free to follow and make comments.

Trump filed a request with the high court on Thursday August 20th asking the justices to hear the case and reverse a lower court’s ruling.

The filing by DOJ Solicitor General Jeffrey Wall argues the 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals in NYC didn’t consider that Trump is blocking people on his personal Twitter account, not the official presidential account. Therefore, the president’s decision to block his harassers is a “purely personal action.”
