Long Lines Greet Voters On First Two Days Of Early Voting In Putnam

Just last year New York State instituted early voting statewide. One reason for the statewide early voting push was an attempt to dissipate the long lines voters encountered at the polling booths on Election Day and to accommodate the daily 9-5 commuters who found it difficult to vote before or after regular working hours.

This past weekend, the first 2 days of early voting for the 2020 election year saw the opposite result. Hundreds lined up outside the Board of Elections Office in Carmel starting as early was 730 am. (Voting started at 9 am) Several dozen voters posted on social media that they waited more then 3 hours to vote due to the lines and social distancing rules. At 10am the line at the Putnam County BOE had stretched out into the adjoining Spins Bowl Parking lot and up to the bowling alley’s main entrance.

Early voting began in Putnam County last Saturday at 9 am and continues all week through Sunday November 2nd.
