Maloney Statement on New Science-First Actions to Combat Climate and Create Green Jobs

Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) voiced his support for the Biden Administration’s actions to combat the threat of climate change, invest in green infrastructure development, and create jobs.

“We only have one chance to protect our planet from climate change, and the time to act is now. These are commonsense, science-backed steps we can take to restore our global leadership in this fight and create jobs here at home,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. “I look forward to working with a new White House that understands how consequential this threat is to our environment, our economy, and our future.”

Representative Maloney has been a longtime champion of legislation to protect the environment and combat climate change. He has lead bills like the Hudson River Climate Change Protection Act, which will help address the local impact of rising sea-levels in New York, and helped pass the Clean Economy Jobs and Innovation Act, a legislative package that will create new jobs, invest in carbon pollution-reducing technologies and bolster renewable energy projects. His bill to ban oil barges from anchoring on the lower Hudson River was recently signed into law. Read more about that bill here.

President Biden outlined his science-first plan today, which includes actions to restore American leadership in environmental and climate-related global efforts; advances clean energy initiatives; establishes the White House Office of Domestic Climate Policy to coordinate a whole-of-government climate agenda; accelerates clean energy infrastructure projects and creates jobs; conserves land and establishes a Civilian Climate Corps to oversee conservation and reforestation efforts; invests in climate-smart farming technologies, and addresses climate and environmental injustices, among many other provisions.

On his first day in office President Biden rejoined the Paris Agreement, a move Rep. Maloney supports and has pushed for in the House of Representatives.

Representative Maloney serves on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
