PCDOH Answers Questions about the Delta Variant

The Delta variant is behind the current resurgence of COVID-19 cases nationwide. In region two, which includes New York and New Jersey, genomic surveillance estimates that more than 97 percent of new cases were the result of Delta variant infections during the first week in August. With Delta’s increased ability to be transmitted, including to some who have been vaccinated, many questions have emerged.

The Putnam County Department of Health is here to provide as many answers as possible, while the science evolves and virus typing continues.

One of the most common questions asked is how prevalent the Delta virus is in Putnam. To help answer this and other questions, the health department has posted a new FAQ on the Delta variant under the heading “FAQs and More” in the center of Coronavirus page: www.putnamcountyny.com/health/coronavirus/.
