Last week I had the opportunity to eat lunch at Taiim Falafel Shack in Hastings-on-Hudson. You may be wondering why I'm reviewing a restaurant that's so far from Chappaqua. I'll tell you why! It's because I was introduced to this fabulous Middle Eastern cuisine at the Chappaqua Farmer's Market. The Chappaqua Farmer's Market was the first market Taiim started at and let me tell you, I'm thrilled they are still one of the staple vendors.
Taiim Falafel Shack is a kid friendly, welcoming, and fun environment. We sat at the bar, in a great little nook in the back. The food started coming out, and let me just say, "wow!". We started with Babaganouj, Falafel and an Israeli Chopped Salad. Every dish had a ton of flavor. The falafel was the best I ever had (and I've had a lot of falafel). They were crunchy on the outside and tender and delicious on the inside. The Israeli Chopped Salad is comprised of cucumbers, tomatoes, and green onions, chopped and tossed with olives in a lemon vinaigrette – it's light and tasty!
We also tried the grape leaves, hummus with chicken Shawarma and the fresh warm pita. Dipping the pita into the hummus and chicken Shawarma was one of the most amazing things I've ever eaten. The chicken is Middle Eastern spiced boneless chicken, slowly broiled on a spinning rotisserie and finished with sauteed onions and peppers. It has a TON of flavor. The grape leaves were warm delicious and perfectly seasoned. Taiim means 'delicious' in Hebrew and boy was owner Zamir correct when he chose a name for this place!
It may seem like I'm overreacting but I'm not . You'll just have to go try it for yourself! I interviewed one of the regulars while I was there. Tom told me, "I come here every week. The service is fantastic. The food is always fantastic. It's my weekly treat – the only time I go out to lunch is here – every Friday."
Tom and I are not the only ones who agree that Taiim Falafel Shack is amazing. They were voted Best Cheap Eats in 2013 by Westchester Magazine. Zagat rated their food "very good to excellent." Westchester Magazine also included Taiim in their list of 97 Best Eating/Drinking Experiences in Westchester. This is only the tip of the iceberg. To see the whole list of accolades click here.
I hope to see you all at Taiim's table at the Chappaqua Farmer's Market or at Taiim Falafel Shack in Hastings. They are also hosting a Cinco de Mayo party – or as they are calling it, a 'Cinco di Shalom' party from May 1-3. I'll be there, will you? Happy eating!
