Greenwich Botanical Center Features Author Lizzy Rockwell at Second Annual Frolic in the Forest

This family festival event is a fundraiser for youth and outreach programming that supports horticulture, conservation, and the arts in Fairfield and Westchester Counties.

The second annual Frolic in the Forest scheduled for Sunday, April 28 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the Greenwich Botanical Center has added Author Lizzy Rockwell to the day’s activities.

“We are thrilled to feature Old Greenwich native Lizzy Rockwell’s popular book Plants Feed Me. Children then will plant their own pollinator seedling to bring home and nurture in their own gardens," said event Co-chair, Kim Caravella.

The celebration features spring-themed activities for the whole family including a children’s fashion show, children’s entertainment, silent auction, door prizes, and refreshments. Serendipity magazine is the main media sponsor.

“The Fairy Woodland theme from last year is expanded through the conception of our magical Fairy Garden filled with over 20 Fairy Houses as part of an Eye-Spy Scavenger hunt," said Jennifer Butler, Greenwich Botanical Center Board member, and the event Co-chair. She continued, “The imaginative nature elements incorporated by Committee Member Vikki Cappiali are amazing and sure to entice little environmentalists.” Several of the Fairy Houses were crafted by Greenwich school children.

Co-chair Kay Sterling continued, "This theme fits so nicely with the location of the GBC, nestled within the 61-acre Montgomery Pinetum, as well as supports our mission to promote horticulture, conservation, and the arts through educational programs, outreach activities and special events."

The fashion show presents Greenwich children ages 3-13 modeling seasonal looks by JoJo Maman Bébé (jojomamanbebe.com), Petit Maison Kids (petitmaisonkids.com), Fifi & Bella, Vineyard Vines, Roller Rabbit and accessories by Monogram Mary (monogrammary.com).

Rise Brewing Company (risebrewingco.com), owned in part by Greenwich native Grant Gyesky, is providing refreshments along with Cos Cob’s Gelato & Cioccolato (gelatoecioccolato.us) and Randy’s Wines (randyswines.com).

The GBC provides environmental enrichment activities onsite and offsite through school and scout field trips, high school internships, after-school programs, school/community garden guidance and Teaching Vegetable Garden activities. "Funds raised through this event make it possible for the younger generation in our community to connect with our environment, which is vital to their health and wellbeing," Jennifer Behette, Director of Youth Programming at GBC.

Ticket prices range from $25-$175. Sponsorship and underwriting opportunities are available. For more information please visit the Greenwich Botanical Center website (https://greenwichbotanicalcenter.org/event/frolic-in-the-forest-2/).   #FrolicInTheForest2019 #GBC1957
