The Sip & Shop Girls’ Night Out Boutique for Swim Across America Fairfield County was started in 2016 by Roseann Benedict and Nancy Carr, longtime friends and Greenwich residents who met 20 years ago when their children were in nursery school. Both Roseann and Nancy are local business leaders and have created this event to bring together and foster the business ventures of other local women. More than 40 different vendors are scheduled to participate and it’s a great event to kick-off the holiday shopping season. Products and services include wine, vodka and food tastings, home décor, men’s and women’s fashions, jewelry, accessories, beauty products and more. Some of the local businesses owned or represented by local women include: BeSensational, Perfect Provenance, COBS Bread, In2Design, MoesMonkeys, Ortensia Blu Italian Adventures, Sabina Furst Desings, Skube, Therese Custom Designs, Tracy Schmidt Accessories, Turq Sport, and Warwick & Lazaro.

“Everyone has someone they know or love who has or is battling cancer,” said Nancy Carr. “It’s a disease that has sadly touched too many of our friends and too many in our community. But through organizations like Swim Across America Fairfield County and events like our Sip & Shop Girls’ Night Out Boutique, we can make a difference and raise funds that go toward life-saving treatments that can change the outcomes of this disease.”

Nancy Carr’s interest in supporting local cancer-related nonprofits began as a volunteer helping cancer patients obtain transportation for treatment before she joined Swim Across America Fairfield County a few years ago. “I wasn’t a swimmer,” said Nancy. “But I quickly realized after a friend’s son was diagnosed with cancer in 2016, that I could contribute in many other ways, such as organizing events like the Sip & Shop.” Today, Nancy is one of the co-chairs of Swim Across America Fairfield County, along with Michele Graham, the mother of a teenage cancer survivor. In her professional life, Nancy is an independent personal stylist with J.Hilburn custom menswear.

Roseann Benedict is a realtor with William Raveis Real Estate. She knows too well the ravages of cancer, as several of her friends and family members have and are currently valiantly fighting the disease.

“Anything we can do to raise funds that go directly into creating new and better, more effective treatments for cancer are worth it,” noted Roseann. “The Greenwich community and actually all of Fairfield County has been incredible at raising funds that really do make a difference.”
