Greenwich COVID-19 Community Relief Fund More Than Halfway to its Goal Thanks to Dalio Philanthropies

Greenwich United Way now accepting grant applications from non-profit organizations helping residents faced with increased challenges during the current crisis

GREENWICH, Conn., APRIL 1, 2020 – The Greenwich United Way’s Greenwich COVID-19 Community Relief Fund is more than halfway to its $500,000 goal thanks to a recent donation of $100,000 from Dalio Philanthropies. The fund will provide disaster relief and recovery efforts for Greenwich residents experiencing economic hardship due to the COVID-19 health crisis. Non-profit local agencies supporting relevant relief efforts can apply for grants from the fund.

“We are incredibly grateful for Dalio Philanthropies and their very generous gift to the Greenwich COVID-19 Community Relief Fund. We would love to have a match so that we can quickly reach our goal and issue grants to help Greenwich residents who are most in need at this critical time,” said David Rabin, CEO of Greenwich United Way.

In addition to significant gifts from Dalio Philanthropies and the Town of Greenwich, there have been nearly 200 individual contributions to the Greenwich COVID-19 Community Relief Fund including a donation from Greenwich Professional Fire Fighters IAFF Local 1042.

“It’s inspiring to see the people of our town rally to support their neighbors at a time like this,” said Rabin. “I encourage everyone to contribute however they can. All gifts will go right to work in Greenwich, impacting the lives of our residents facing challenges that we never could have foreseen or planned for.”

The Town of Greenwich’s Department of Human Services continues to experience a significant increase in requests for assistance. The organization received 30 percent more inquiries last week with many requesting help with rent, mortgage and food.

Aiming for a quick turnaround, the GUW Grants Committee will review all proposals from local agencies, conduct a deep dive into each organization’s financials, and review the recovery needs. Grant funds are expected to be used for basic essentials and food assistance, emergency medical expenses, rental relief and childcare assistance.

Donations can be made to the Greenwich COVID-19 Community Relief Fund here. Please note COVID-19 on any donation made by check. Non-profits seeking funding should email GUW’s Director of Community Impact, Robert Moore at rmoore@greenwichunitedway.org.
