Breast Cancer Alliance (BCA) Kicks off Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo Raises BCA Flag: Recognizes BCA’s Important Work to Fight Breast Cancer

Greenwich, CT, October 2, 2020 - First Selectman Fred Camillo kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Thursday, October 1st with the annual BCA flag raising at Greenwich Town Hall. Speakers included Meg Russell, BCA President, Yonni Wattenmaker, BCA Executive Director and Dr. Barbara Ward, Director, Breast Services at Greenwich Hospital and BCA Medical Advisory Board member.

During the ceremony, First Selectman Camillo read a proclamation declaring October National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Greenwich, recognizing Breast Cancer Alliance for its work in bringing education and healthcare access to underserved women in Greenwich and its neighboring communities. Meg Russell said “We deeply appreciate First Selectman Camillo’s support for the important work being done by BCA and honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the Town of Greenwich.”

Yonni Wattenmaker remarked that “Breast cancer has not waned during the pandemic, making treatment more difficult and more frightening. Funding to support the growing number of underserved women and to keep advancing the field is perhaps more important now than ever before.”

“As you can imagine, most aggressive breast cancers don’t listen to COVID,” Ward said. Residents must still come together “both symbolically and inspirationally” to help the BCA with “staying the course in the fight against breast cancer.”
