Mardi "Bra" Drive Happening NOW Through February 22

The Undies Project Mardi “Bra” drive is held each year to coincide with Mardi Gras.  “We decided to go ahead with our Mardi “Bra” drive despite the still uncertain and challenging times”, said Lucy Langley, Co-President of The Undies Project, “We believe people are eager to continue to help, and the need is now greater than ever”.

For those who are homeless, living in shelters or who are on a low income, a bra is unattainable, or a big expense.  For many, underwear is a necessity, not a luxury.   Co-President Laura Delaflor said, “Imagine having to make the choice between putting food on the table or purchasing new underwear.  Many of us just take it for granted, but for those less fortunate it is a real hardship”.

Started in 2015 by Langley & Delaflor the mission of The Undies Project is to provide new underwear to men, women and children in need to improve their lives.  They identified that underwear is the most under-donated, and most needed, item of clothing for those who are struggling.  “No one should be deprived of the simple, basic necessity of new, clean underwear”, said Delaflor, adding that “Hygiene and physical comfort are only a part of this basic human need.  New, clean underwear also provides dignity and self-esteem”.

The Undies Project is accepting donations of new and gently used, clean, laundered bras.  All sizes are needed, but in particular sizes 34-38.  All donations received will be distributed through The Undies Project’s 26 partner agencies that help those in need.

Donations can be made now through Monday, February 22nd.

The drive will take place in Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Stamford, Westport, Wilton and Oxford CT.
