Greenwich United Way Welcomes New Members to Board of Directors at Annual Meeting

The Greenwich United Way (GUW) Board of Directors Annual Meeting was held on June 15 at Greenwich Country Club. Members of the organization's staff and Board welcomed four new Board members: Pamela Fornero, Sabrina Forsythe, Clarena McBeth and Antonio Miranda.

 

GUW CEO David Rabin highlighted recent progress and noted that the organization put more than $2 million to work in the community this past year through grants and GUW’s own programming, positively impacting the lives of more than 25,000 town residents.

 

“Most notably, Early Childhood Achievement Gap Solutions ran for the fourth year, and we now have significant data points that show how the program is working to successfully narrow the achievement gap among the town’s youngest students,” said Rabin. “The ROI on a program such as this is a more vibrant, productive population of people who are able to lift themselves up and break the cycle of poverty, benefitting everyone in our community.”

 

Rabin provided details on the widespread youth and adolescent mental health crisis, accelerated and intensified by the pandemic, and shared dire reports from the Greenwich Police Department that prove the Greenwich community is not immune to what is being referred to as a national emergency.

 

“The GUW must be an integral part of the solution to this crisis in town, so in conjunction with Greenwich Hospital, we are embarking on the development of an intensive outpatient program to address mental health challenges. This will be a priority for us going forward.”

Pam is a returning board member to the Greenwich United Way and current member of the Advisory Board. Pam received her MBA at Columbia University and her BSBA in Accounting (Computer Science) at the University of Richmond. Currently retired, she worked at PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPERS for 33 years in a number of positions, including Finance and Human Resource Leader in Banking Capital Markets; Assurance, Operations and Technology Leader, Consultant in the National Quality Organization; and most recently as Assurance Partner in Banking Capital Markets. Within the Greenwich United Way, Pam is a current member of the Audit Committee and served as Audit Committee Chair from 2013-2019. Pam has served as an Admission Department Volunteer and Accounting Advisory Board Member at the University of Richmond. She has also volunteered with Urban Pathways Inc, NYC. Pam enjoys travel, film festivals, photography and spending time with family and friends. She and her husband of 25 years have three children.

Sabrina Forsythe was born and raised in Greenwich. Sabrina attended Greenwich Academy, the Hackley School and Stetson University. She always has been an active community volunteer. She has chaired many YWCA events and has been a member of the Old Bags Luncheon Committee since its inception. In addition, Sabrina has chaired the Bruce Museum Renaissance Ball, three Convent of the Sacred Heart Galas, two Greenwich Hospital Galas, as well as events for the Boy Scouts, the Boys and Girls Club and Community Centers, among others. She chaired the 2018 Greenwich United Way Gala and YWCA Greenwich’s Centennial Celebration. She served on the Board of Directors of the Bruce Museum and the Friends of Nathaniel Witherell. She has also served on the Board of Directors of Greenwich Adult Day Care, Greenwich Green and Clean and the Tree Tops Chamber Music Society. Sabrina is currently a member of the GUW Advisory Board. For the last two years, Sabrina has chaired the Tocqueville society fundraising effort. Sabrina has two daughters, Courtney and Nicole. She considers them to be her greatest accomplishment.

Clarena is a native of New York City, born and raised in Whitestone, NY. She received her BA in Psychology and Sociology from Fairfield University and Master’s from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University in Mental Health Counseling. She is a licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), Clinical Functional Family Therapist, and a Certified Clinical Telehealth Provider. Clarena currently has her own private practice and has over 13 years of experience treating adolescents and adults in New York City and Fairfield County. She has volunteered with the Greenwich United Way in a number of roles including on the Oktoberfest committee, co-chairing Brew Ha Ha and co-leading the Outreach committee of Sole Sisters. A member of the Junior League of Greenwich for many years, Clarena most recently served as President from 2020-21, during which she was also a member of the First Selectman’s Diversity Advisory Committee. Clarena is an active volunteer at Christ Church Greenwich and was a Board Member and President of Christ Church Preschool. She also volunteers with Greenwich Country Day, Greenwich Land Trust’s Go Wild!, and Greenwich Botanical Center’s Frolic in the Forest. She enjoys ballet and hip-hop dancing, cooking, spending time with family and friends and volunteering. She and her husband live in Greenwich with their four daughters. 

Tony was born and raised in New York, NY. He received his AB from Harvard College and MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business. Tony is a Managing Director in Private Equity at Littlejohn & Co, LLC, which he joined in 2004, and he is a member of the investment committee. Previously, Tony worked at Clayton, Dubilier & Rice and J.P. Morgan & Co. He has attended various Greenwich United Way events in the past and his wife, Beth, has been a Sole Sisters committee member and Hostess Co-Chair. Tony just completed his term as a member of the Board of Trustees for Xavier High School in New York City and is a current Regent. He is an avid sports fan, especially of New York teams. Tony and his wife live in Greenwich with their three children who attend Greenwich Academy and Brunswick.

The Greenwich United Way shares a name with approximately 1,400 other similar organizations across the nation, although the Greenwich, Connecticut division is a privately incorporated, locally governed, nonprofit agency. As a volunteer driven organization, the Greenwich United Way exists to help identify and address the human service needs specific to its local community and to create and affect meaningful solutions. Through various fundraising efforts, the organization is able to directly allocate the funds necessary to accomplish this goal. The Greenwich United Way also invests in and conducts collaborative efforts to address broad based community needs with partnering nonprofit agencies.
