Greenwich United Way Partners with Greenwich Hospital to Build Adolescent Behavioral Health Outpatient Program

GUW’s initial contribution is the first step toward construction of the facility that will house this new program

GREENWICH, Conn., FEBRUARY 17, 2023 – The Greenwich United Way (GUW) kicked off its partnership with Greenwich Hospital this week to launch a new Adolescent Behavioral Health Outpatient Program when GUW CEO David Rabin presented Noël Appel, SVP & Chief Development Officer at Greenwich Hospital, with the organization’s initial contribution. This capital is a crucial step toward building the community’s first behavioral health program designed for young people ages 12 to 18. The new facility will be located at 500 W. Putnam Avenue, co-located with Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital Pediatric Specialty Center in Greenwich.

“Accessible mental health care for our town’s young people is critically needed and we are proud to lead the charge with Greenwich Hospital in building this essential program,” said Rabin. “Without the backing of the Greenwich United Way and our supporters, this facility would not get built in our community. We are up to the challenge and are confident we will be successful in raising the capital to design and construct the space for the program.”

“The creation of an Adolescent Behavioral Health Outpatient Program addresses an acute need within our community and will transform the availability of behavioral health care and treatments for adolescents,” said Greenwich Hospital President Diane P. Kelly, DNP, MBA, RN. “A mental health epidemic is hitting our younger population extremely hard and no community is immune. With this new program, adolescents struggling with mental health challenges have immediate access to the care and support they need.”

The GUW is committed to raising $1.6 million to support the build-out and operation of the Adolescent Behavioral Health Outpatient Program. To contribute or learn more about the program, call 203-869-2221.
