GREENWICH, Conn. – June 28, 2023 – Greenwich United Way Finance Champions celebrated the program’s fifth year with a visit to COBS Bread Bakery in Riverside. Greenwich Public School (GPS) middle school students enrolled in the Finance Champions life skills program at the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich got a sweet treat and learned what it takes to run a successful local business from COBS Bread Bakery owners Louise, Tom and Rob Hyden who shared their collective insight about the special way that COBS Bakery makes breads with healthy ingredients.
Finance Champions are taught the importance of earning, saving and spending wisely. The COBS Bread Bakery visit provided ‘food for thought’ about future employment opportunities in the Greenwich community. Students also learned about the COBS process of preparing baked goods, the technology systems for operations, forecasting demand for different products and the importance of delivering excellent customer service.
“Both the Greenwich United Way and Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich are grateful for the team at COBS Bread Bakery taking time out of the busy work day to engage with local youth. Our Finance Champions were given the opportunity to witness first-hand how principles they've learned apply in real life, expanding their knowledge and future horizons,” said David Rabin, CEO of the Greenwich United Way.
