The Cos Cob Fire Police Patrol to Honor Greenwich Businessman Rick Kral at Annual Benefit

The fundraiser will take place on Saturday, March 30th at the Greenwich Water Club.

The Cos Cob Fire Police Patrol, Inc. (The Patrol) will honor Greenwich businessman Richard (Rick) F. Kral, Jr. at its annual fundraiser which will be held at the Greenwich Water Club, on Saturday, March 30. Kral, owner of Beacon Point Marine and Greenwich Water Club, will receive the Chief’s Award for his tremendous long-time support of The Patrol as well as his leadership within the Town of Greenwich.

“I have been very fortunate to work with many dedicated volunteers, in different capacities, over the years,” said Kral.  “Volunteers make all of the difference in our community.  When I was told the Fire Police wanted to recognize me for my service to the community, I was truly honored.  There is no better recognition than being noticed by your fellow volunteers, who themselves have committed so much to making our community great and safe for all residents.”

Kral moved to Greenwich in 1997 with his wife Cindy after he purchased Beacon Point Marine, a local marina with strong historical ties to Cos Cob. Kral quickly became involved in town government, representing Cos Cob on the Representative Town Meeting (RTM) for 12 years, four of which he spent as Chairman of his district. His determination led him to involvement in numerous community projects during his time on the RTM, including upgrades to Cardinal Stadium (a project which he remains involved with to this day). Kral continued his civic involvement serving on the Town of Greenwich Shellfish Commission as Shellfish Warden, the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and the Greenwich High School Sports Foundation. Kral is a founding member of the Greenwich Property Owners Association and works with the Greenwich Athletic Foundation. Kral is a volunteer coach for his children’s sports teams, ranging from Cos Cob Crusher football to cheerleading, baseball and flag football. Kral has never hesitated to step in on important initiatives, whether it was working to install a new scoreboard at GHS, or figuring out how to fund the holiday lights on Greenwich Avenue, he is always there to lend a hand.

Kral understands first-hand what it means to be a volunteer first responder, as a 25-year member of the Mt. Snow Ski Patrol. He commits 20-25 days a year to supporting the Ski Patrol in a volunteer capacity. As a first responder and someone who believes in the Cos Cob community and the Town of Greenwich, Rick has been a longtime supporter of numerous community charities.  His support was vital to helping the Cos Cob Fire Police Patrol purchase their Utility 2 vehicle. Over time, Kral has been able to transform the Cos Cob waterfront with the development of the Greenwich Water Club and played a large role in town, making Greenwich a better place for all. Kral embodies the volunteer spirit which makes Greenwich such a dynamic and strong community. Past recipients of the Chief’s Award include Representative Fred Camillo, former Selectman Paul Hicks, First Selectman Peter Tesei, and notable baseball manager and Stamford Emergency Services Director, Bobby Valentine.

Fun Night for an Important Cause

Protecting the Residents of Greenwich

The Cos Cob Fire Police Patrol, Inc. is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization dedicated to protecting the residents of the Town of Greenwich since 1927. The Patrol provides a broad spectrum of services to residents and first responders including firefighting, salvage operations, traffic and scene control at emergencies. One of the few remaining nationwide organizations which specialize in the art of salvage work, The Patrol specially trains its members to protect valuable personal property, inside of a home or business, that could otherwise be destroyed due to fire, water or smoke damage. The Patrol proudly serves the entire town of Greenwich, and is under the command of its own Chief.

Last year, The Patrol responded to over 1,000 emergency calls. The Patrol’s dedicated members are volunteers who train and donate their time solely out of love for what they do. Each of the 25 service members of The Patrol must train for over 100 hours to qualify for their part in the organization. Members of the Patrol are a diverse group of men and women from many professions. In addition to service members, the associate, honorary and veteran members volunteered over 5,000 hours to the Town and its citizens through community outreach, support, meetings and training in 2018 alone. They don’t stop. Whether it is learning or giving of themselves to the community, members of The Patrol are dedicated to serving the needs of the citizens of the Town of Greenwich.  “These dedicated volunteers deserve our continued support as they remain committed to being on call 24/7 to ensure the safety and welfare of the more than 62,000 residents who call Greenwich home,” said Peter Tesei, Greenwich First Selectman. “The Fire Police Patrol is, in part, one of the reasons why Greenwich was named in 2017 as the Safest City in America to raise a family.”
