Greenwich Botanical Center Hosts Screening of Earthrise as Part of Earth Month Celebrations

 

A screening of Earthrise is scheduled for Monday, April 22 at 6:30 pm following a 6 pm refreshments reception at Greenwich Botanical Center. The documentary tells the story of the first image of Earth captured from space in 1968. Told solely by the Apollo 8 astronauts, the film recounts their experiences and memories and explores the beauty, awe, and grandeur of the Earth against the blackness of space. A short discussion will follow the 30-minute film.

"Greenwich Botanical Center promotes Earth Month throughout April in Greenwich with public events for students, for families and for general adult enrichment," said Meg McAuley Kaicher, Greenwich Botanical Center Board President. “This brilliant award-winning documentary by Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee appeals to a broad audience and serves as a gift to the community as it reminds us of the importance of conservation for our planet.”

Nestled within the 61-acre Montgomery Pinetum, GBC is a volunteer, member-based organization open to the public that promotes horticulture, conservation, and the arts through educational programs, outreach activities and special events. With its Horticulture Building featuring plants grown for sale in its greenhouse as well as its pop-up shop offering a selection of unique gift items, GBC provides an ideal shopping venue whose proceeds support community outreach activities.

GBC provides environmental enrichment activities onsite and offsite through school and scout field trips, high school internships, after-school programs, school/community garden guidance and Teaching Vegetable Garden activities. "Funds raised through this event make it possible for the younger generation in our community to connect with our environment, which is vital to their health and wellbeing," Jennifer Behette, Director of Youth Programming at GBC.
