Forget the shuttle buses, lines and booties for touring Antiquarius homes in years past. Greenwich Historical Society’s Antiquarius House Tour on December 3 can be enjoyed from the comfort of participants’ homes thanks to a collaboration between three of Greenwich’s most talented interior designers and Quintessence At Home.
Susanna Salk, co-founder of the dynamic design firm will interview Charlotte Barnes, Heather Georges and Patrick Mele for an intimate look at what makes these homes special and ready for entertaining at a moment’s notice.
“The wow factor will be every bit as evident this year and frankly we’re confident it will be an even richer experience since participants will hear first-hand the designers’ thought process and inspiration for the decor,” says Cai Pandolfino, Historical Society Director of Communications, Strategy and Business Development.
Charlotte Barnes’ Tips for Hosting the Holidays at Home
Known for creating elegant, warm and intimate spaces, Charlotte’s award-winning work has been featured in top interior design publications in the U.S. and Europe. She shares timeless entertaining tips for creating festive celebrations, even in this year of the pandemic when gatherings at home will be smaller.
- Always set a lavish table even if dinner is casual. I believe the best tables are a mix of different colors and patterns, and I like to use a beautiful cloth as a backdrop. I am all about mixing my collections of silver and gold with old and new pieces. I like to call it ‘traditional but not.’ When you buy what you love, you will always find a place for it!
- Be sure to have your favorite food and drink on hand (in excess!) so you can entertain at a moment’s notice. Our favorite cheese is Pierre Robert at room temperature and lots of William Poll potato chips — they are amazing.
- Find a drink that is easy to make and serve. I like Lillete with an orange slice and a sprig of rosemary. It is festive and delicious and has become something that our guests look forward to every year.
- Start collecting presents throughout the year so you can have more time with family when they arrive. And get those presents wrapped early!
Greenwich mother to three and former owner of Hoyt-Levasseur interior design in Manhattan, Heather Georges has a well-deserved reputation for hosting memorable soirees from her home. She shares tips for creating tables to remember:
- Create a theme and gather items you love and are excited about, for example a distinctive tablecloth, beautiful hand painted plates, colored glasses and build from there.
- Mix old and new and put together colors that are a bit unusual. Mixing orange and burgundy with a touch of amethyst, for example, is one of my favorites.
- Add layers of votives and personal objects until the table is rich in contrast for creating a special mood or bringing back cherished memories. I have a collection of porcelain flowers that I brought back from a trip that I love to use.
