CT Press Club Taps TV Pro for Zoom Tips, March 23

Television veteran and Emmy award-winner, Mercedes Velgot understands best practices for television and virtual appearances.

Weston’s Velgot is the Executive Producer of Born to Explore (premiered on ABC in 2011) with Richard Wiese (BTE), a weekly travel/adventure show currently airing on PBS. An accomplished on-air talent, she’s also appeared on fX, CNN, E! Entertainment Television, and Oxygen. In addition, she’s anchored ABC’s World News Now and The Morning Show for WBIS, as well as guest hosting Live! With Regis.

“If the clothes make the man/woman, simple lighting tricks and tools of the trade make the Zoom,” said Velgot.

The Connecticut Press Club (CPC) will feature Velgot in the launch of their new educational Fireside Chat Series for writers and communicators at large. The first installment, Your Best Zoom Self: Tips from a TV Pro, will take place on Tuesday, March 23 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. via Zoom. Attendees will benefit from Velgot’s inside perspective and garner tips on how to look and sound professional during online meetings, presentations, media interviews, and TV appearances. Registration is underway and open to both CPC members (free) and the general public ($10 fee). Members should e-mail ctpressclub@gmail.com to sign up, while others should register through this link here.

“The Press Club is excited to launch our new Fireside Chat series, an opportunity to learn about timely topics and develop new skills from local and national media professionals,” said Michele Turk, Connecticut Press Club President.

The Connecticut Press Club is an affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW), and includes both male and female members. The club’s base was once comprised solely of print and broadcast journalists, but now welcomes all types of communicators: writers, editors, bloggers, authors, educators, public relations professionals, media photographers, students, and more. Plans for the coming year include lectures by sought-after speakers, professional development workshops, networking functions and the annual awards ceremony.
