According to the The National Confectioners Association, chocolate sales represent 75 percent or more of Valentine’s Day candy purchases. They also report that Americans overwhelming prefer chocolate (69 percent) to flowers on Valentine’s Day (31 percent), but women are little more divided on the issue with 59% preferring chocolate compared to the 83 percent of men who would rather have chocolate than flowers.
