Greenwich Historical Society Celebrates 90th Anniversary with Festive Celebration

Series of Dynamic Initiatives Throughout the Year to Create a Deeper Sense of Place

For 90 years, Greenwich Historical Society has represented Greenwich at its core – a town firmly rooted in the nation’s past as it is in shaping its future. Inspired by the generous spirit and support of members and friends, the Historical Society will host a festive celebration at its Cos Cob campus on May 12th from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. The celebration will kick-off DISCOVER GREENWICH − dynamic interactive programming that is designed to promote a sense of place and belonging, spark dialogue and inspire meaningful connections across the diverse community of more than 63,000 people.

“Our 90th anniversary opens an exciting new chapter in our commitment to preserve and interpret our shared history, our stories and the rich experiences that have shaped Greenwich since its founding in 1640,” says Debra Mecky, executive director and CEO of Greenwich Historical Society. “We are extremely grateful for the support of the community and invite them to join us as we look ahead to forging an even deeper connection to Greenwich and a sense of place that is rooted in the past and committed to a bright future for all residents.”

DISCOVER GREENWICH programs invite members and friends to:

Explore local neighborhoods, topography and architecture through a series of informative guided walking tours beginning May 14th through October 29th that illuminate the stories that have made Greenwich the vibrant town it is today.

Enrich their knowledge and understanding of the history of Greenwich through a variety of intergenerational programs, workshops, lectures and demonstrations that connect lessons of the past with contemporary hands-on learning experiences that strengthen connections to the past, to each other and to the collective future.

Engage with members of the community through events in July and August that include art classes, picnics and scavenger hunts for gaining a deeper appreciation of Greenwich’s common experiences and shared environment. Holiday events will offer festive opportunities for additional engagement.

“The Town of Greenwich is indebted to the Historical Society for 90 years of exceptional programming,” says Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo. “Few towns in America have Historical Societies that offer the breadth of services spanning education, preservation, culture and the arts as Greenwich. This has had a profound impact on Greenwich’s quality of life. These services matter more than ever for understanding and responding to the vast opportunities and challenges that our community faces today and in the future.”
