Local Firefighter Captain, Bill Gluck, has passed at 49

Weston Volunteer Fire Department Captain William “Bill” Gluck 1966-2015

William Charles Gluck was born in Greenwich, CT on March 31, 1966 to Elizabeth White Gluck and Charles William Gluck of Darien, CT.

Bill graduated from Darien High School in 1984 and from the University of Rhode Island in 1989 where he served as president of his fraternity, Phi Sigma Kappa. Bill‘s dedication was legendary including working for Hallmark Cards, Inc. for 26 years, most recently as their Northeast Regional Manager.

During his high school years, Bill was actively involved in Explorer Post 53 EMS becoming an EMT and serving as its president his senior year. He also joined the Noroton Fire Department and remained a member for over 30 years. Bill carried forth his skills and training into his adult life.

He honorably served with the Weston Volunteer Fire Department since moving here with his young family in 2005, quickly rising through the ranks, becoming Lieutenant in 2008 and Captain in 2012. In addition to his passion for community service, Bill was an accomplished sailor, golfer and a gifted and reliable jack-of-all-trades. He enjoyed poker and a good Scotch. And above all, he loved his friends and his beautiful family.

Bill is survived by his wife Hermione Ritchie Gluck and their three daughters, Allison, Hannah and Caroline of Weston, CT, as well as by his sister and brother-in-law, Anne and James D. Orvis and their children Ryan and Amanda of Fairfield, CT.

A full honor guard service is planned for 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Norfield Congregational Church in Weston, CT. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory can be made to the Weston Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 1163, Weston, CT 06883 or at www.wvfd.com.
