Stamford Resident Earns 40 Under 40 Honor for Leadership at Greenwich Hospital

Annie Nardi of Stamford was honored Tuesday as one of Fairfield County’s “40 Under 40” for her contributions as a leader at Greenwich Hospital and for her charitable work. The event honors the county’s most influential young professionals who are making a difference professionally as well as in their communities.

Known by her peers as a go-getter, Nardi is the coordinator of the Greenwich Hospital Total Joint Replacement and Spinal Fusion program. She holds a doctorate degree in physical therapy. Nardi said she was honored to receive the award and pledged to help others succeed.

“I hope to use my experience and knowledge to mentor young professionals, especially women, and cultivate their potential within Yale New Haven Health,” she said. Greenwich Hospital is part of Yale New Haven Health.

“Annie is always looking for opportunities to improve care,” said Peggy Lennon, RN, director of Surgical Services at Greenwich Hospital. “She truly shines as a leader and produces results.”

Nardi’s background in acute rehabilitation in both inpatient and outpatient settings as well as homecare experience has improved the patient experience at Greenwich Hospital. Under her tenure, patients undergoing hip and knee replacement surgery have shorter hospital stays, which translates into faster recoveries, and more are being discharged to home rather than short-term rehabilitation facilities.

She has taken a leadership role working collaboratively with physicians and nurses to successfully reduce the use of opioids in the hospital setting and when patients are home. Nardi also created a video for hospital staff about using alternative pain management methods based on research. As a result, Greenwich Hospital patients are more comfortable, less groggy and require less medication overall.

In the community, Nardi has raised money and participated in the Bennett cancer walk in honor of a dear friend. For many years, she organized a Thanksgiving dinner at the First Congregational Church of Stamford, serving 125 sit-down dinners and delivering more than 200 meals each year.

The “40 Under 40” event was sponsored by the Fairfield County Business Journal.
