Oncology nurse earns Greenwich Hospital’s top nursing honor

Lynn Carbino, RN, Oncology, was honored with the Helen Meehan Award for Excellence in Nursing as part of Greenwich Hospital’s annual Ceremony for Excellence in Nursing to mark National Nurses Week. The award is given each year to a nurse who demonstrates excellence in nursing practice, teaching and leadership.

Other recipients honored at the ceremony included Romelle Maloney, MD, obstetrician and gynecologist, who received the Physician Partner in Care Award. Lori Bufano from the Purchasing Department received the Partner in Care Award.

Anna Cerra, DNP, RN, chief nursing officer and senior vice president of Patient Care Services, congratulated all the nominees. “You all deserve our admiration and our respect for the dedicated work you do each and every day,” Cerra told the audience in the packed auditorium.

A nurse for 27 years, Carbino was praised by her peers for her enthusiasm, caring nature and dedication in her role as oncology nurse educator. “Having Lynn on the team makes a huge difference and plays a crucial role in our success,” said Norman G. Roth, Greenwich Hospital’s president and chief executive officer. “It’s incredible how often she goes above and beyond to assist patients and their family members.” The Greenwich resident is an active board member of the Fairfield County Chapter of the Association for Oncology Nurse Navigators. She also coordinates the hospital’s annual cancer survivorship event that draws more than 100 patients and family members.

Dr. Maloney was honored for her commitment to the community and hospital, as voted by the nursing staff. The Stamford resident is an advocate for women of all ages and ethnicities, empowering them to take charge of their health. “Dr. Maloney is a dedicated and skilled physician who puts patient safety at the forefront of her practice. She is a loved and respected member of the Greenwich Hospital family,” said Spike Lipschutz, MD, chief medical officer and senior vice president of Medical Services. In 2017, Dr. Maloney was awarded the YWCA BRAVA award for her commitment to excellence within her profession and the community. She is also the recipient of the Fairfield County Doctor of Distinction Female Trailblazer Award.
