Calling Stamford Paddlers: Come Join the Flotilla!

The call is out for Stamford paddlers of all ages to come together and have fun with the SoundWaters Flotilla on July 15. Kayakers and paddleboarders of all skill levels are welcome to join this floating fundraiser, which aims to support a clean and healthy Long Island Sound. Individuals and teams can register to participate at SoundWatersFlotilla.org.

Paddlers can join the Flotilla by launching from Cove Island Park in Stamford. The four-mile route (chosen to be achievable for all ages and experience levels) will end at Boccuzzi Park in Stamford, where participants will enjoy a celebratory lunch and music on the beach. For most paddlers, the course will take one and a half to two hours.

Participants who need equipment can rent one of SoundWaters’ own kayaks or paddle boards as part of the registration process, while rental inventory lasts. Kayak guides and support boats will accompany the Flotilla to ensure a safe, positive experience for all. At the event’s conclusion, SoundWaters will provide shuttle transportation for paddlers and their equipment back to their starting points.

“This event aligns especially well with our core purpose – having people connect to Long Island Sound,” said Leigh Shemitz, SoundWaters’ President. “A group paddle this size is an incredible amount of fun, and getting out on the water helps us all realize that the Sound is worth protecting.”

The annual Flotilla has raised more than $200,000 since its 2017 debut. The event is presented by SoundWaters with generous support from Franklin Templeton, as well as Hey Stamford!, Kaster Moving Company and radio stations 95.9 The Fox and WEBE 108.
