Greenwich: This Place Matters Celebration and Photo Contest Boast Town Pride

May is Greenwich Preservation Month: This Place Matters! Third Annual Celebration and Photo Contest to Show Love of Town Kicks Off   

Greenwich First Selectman and Historical Society Call All Residents   to Honor Town's Unique Heritage, Amenities, Cultural Diversity  and Places that Make It Special and Worth Preserving

COS COB, CT, April 29, 2019 - Greenwich First Selectman Peter J. Tesei officially launched Greenwich Preservation Month: This Place Matters! at a reception at Town Hall with a proclamation presented to the Greenwich Historical Society. The third annual campaign and companion photo contest, inspired by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is designed to influence residents on the need to preserve the things that make Greenwich special and a great place to live.

"I'm delighted to kick-off the third annual Greenwich Preservation Month: This Place Matters! promotion," says Greenwich First Selectman Peter J. Tesei. "Our town is a treasure due to its rich architectural heritage, its vast array of amenities and services and its enviable location on the Sound. Everyone who cares about Greenwich should have a stake in preserving what's special and unique about it so it can be enjoyed for generations to come. I encourage all residents to recognize the places that matter this month."

This Place Matters! Photo Contest is Simple to Enter

People of all ages are invited to send submissions for This Place Matters! photo contest beginning May 1. Pictures of favorite places in Greenwich should be submitted with a brief statement about their location and why they make Greenwich special and worth preserving by July 1 to the Greenwich Historical Society. Participants are encouraged to use their imagination in choosing a place they love such as a special street, school, store, restaurant, walking trail or garden - any place that inspires love of town. Photos need to be high resolution--300 dpi--to be winners. Photographers can submit photos via the Historical Society's website: greenwichhistory.org.

A panel of independent judges will select the winning photos, which will be announced at a reception at Innis Arden Cottage at Greenwich Point Park on Greenwich's Founders' Day, July 18, at 10am. The top three photos will be published in Greenwich Magazine, Exclusive Magazine Sponsor of This Place Matters! and proudly displayed at the Greenwich Historical Society's newly reimagined campus.
