Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Hands-On Entrepreneurship for Kids!

Three questions with Patricia Clahar, owner and founder of Hands-On Entrepreneurship for Kids.

Why did you start your business?

I started this business because there are a lot of kids getting involved in entrepreneurship these days. It’s really exciting, but entrepreneurship is also very difficult and risky. It’s easy to interpret the disasters and failures along the way as proof that “this was a bad idea” and give up.  If kids don’t approach starting a business with the right mindset, support and guidance, it’s easy for them to become another entrepreneur statistic (everyone knows that 2/3 of small businesses fail). But they don’t have to be. I want kids to be able to approach this with the right mindset so that they can see all of the potential for success that there is in entrepreneurship for themselves, their families and their communities.

Finish this sentence in regard to your business: I wish I could...

I wish I could convince every school to incorporate a hands-on entrepreneurship program that allows students to explore their talents and passions and teaches them how to make money while doing it. This type of education/experience is invaluable, even for students who don’t become entrepreneurs as adults.

Best selling product or service?

My proven system helps kid/teen entrepreneurs get right to the nitty-gritty of starting a business AND gives them the tools they need to successfully manage it for the long term.
