Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT The Child & Family Institute!

Four questions with Adam S. Weissman, Ph.D., Director, The Child & Family Institute.

Why did you start your business?

We started The Child & Family Institute because of our passionate commitment to providing the highest level of evidence-based mental and behavioral health treatment to children, adolescents, young adults, and their families. Our mission is not only to provide state-of-the-science evidence-based care, but to disseminate these practices to mental health agencies, clinicians, schools and communities throughout the country.

Finish this sentence in regard to your business: "I wish I could..."

...find a way to extend the reach of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based treatments to those who need it, regardless of ability to pay. And this wish has compelled me to create a new non-profit organization, the Weissman Children’s Foundation, launching this year, with the goal of breaking down generations-old socioeconomic and geographic barriers to evidence-based treatment access for all youth nationwide.

What is your best selling product/service?

While we offer a host of interdisciplinary health services (e.g., individual and group psychotherapy, psychiatry, neuropsychological evaluations, biofeedback, speech and occupational therapy, holistic health and nutrition, educational consulting, tutoring) clients most often seek out CFI for our highly specialized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) services for emotional, behavioral, habit, and attention disorders in youth- and we pride ourselves on the advanced levels of training that our doctors and clinicians have in this and other evidence-based therapies.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We are proud to partner and collaborate with many business entities and organizations in the Greenwich community, including Stark Office Suites for office space, the Greenwich School District, Connecticut Psychological Association, and many local doctors and therapists for client referrals.
