Greenwich Library takes the health of our patrons and staff very seriously and we continue to monitor the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in our area.
In the interest of public health and in light of the closure of the Greenwich Public Schools, and in consultation with the Library Board of Trustees, Greenwich Library and its Byram Shubert and Cos Cob branches will close at noon today, Thursday, March 12, 2020 and remain closed to the public until further notice.
We understand how critical Library service is to the Greenwich community, and made this difficult decision only after careful consideration and the Trustees’ determination that it was in the best interest of the community to take this action at this time. Yesterday, our facilities manager was informed that we will not be able to purchase new cleaning and sanitizing supplies. Based on this latest development, and the limited nature of our existing supplies, it would be impossible to keep the Library clean and sanitized for our 1,700 daily visitors.
Over the last ten years, Greenwich Library has invested significantly in our Digital Library, which includes thousands of eBooks, audiobooks, music, movies, and more that patrons can access from home. Earlier this year, we expanded access to more than 3,500 magazines and 3,000 newspapers in RBDigital. We will continue to add to these collections.
Patrons can ask reference questions via our website using our Ask a Librarian service.
All Library programs, use of meeting facilities by outside groups, and in-person meetings, are cancelled until further notice.
Due dates for all materials are extended indefinitely. Please do not return Library materials to our book drops. Library cards scheduled to expire in March or April have been extended until April 30.
Any questions about COVID-19 should be directed to the Town of Greenwich Health Department hotlines at (203) 622-7865, (203) 622-7703, (203) 622-7614, (203) 622-7842, or (203) 622-7836.
