Shop small, do big things for your community

You're IT Metalios Group Real Estate!

Three questions with Joy Kim Metalios, Managing Director and Associate Broker at Metalios Group Real Estate.

Why did you start your business?

My team of seventeen people was created out of a need to develop a true 5 star home buying and selling experience for my clients. Having a diverse team of experts is key - I’ve hired best-in-class photographers, videographers, digital marketers, executives, and support staff to make sure everyone’s strengths are brought to the table.

I have a full-time in-house marketing manager who produces digital and print materials for our listings and manages all of our digital platforms to maximize our reach and buyer base. We also have a full-time listing coordinator who perfects every detail during the process from onboarding to close and enables a constant flow of communication.

We have a full Client Care team to help with any client need… they’ll book handymen, deliver moving kits - little things that make what can be a stressful experience less stressful. We also have a COO who puts systems in place for everything that we do and helps manage all of our agents and overall business to make sure everything is seamless. With a full team of experts, I can focus my time on doing what I do best - which is selling homes and negotiating deals!

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

In a packet we give to our buyers we actually have a quote: “Our goal is to make real estate personal. We live local, we shop local, and support local” - we really live and breathe the market here! A lot of our support shows in our client experiences. We send out surprises & gifts during every step of the home buying or selling process.

After closing, we’ll send clients out for a celebratory dinner on us in town. Once a client’s kitchen is all packed away for a move, we’ll send over lunch from Arcuri’s Pizza or Villa Nuova. We also host as many team events as we can locally - we love Louie’s and the Little Pub! We also hosted a senior event at Cos Cob School, where we catered from Joey B’s, and we love Rinaldi’s sandwiches for our open houses. We also have to mention the marlin dip from Fjord’s Fisheries - it’s always a hit!

In terms of actual gifts, we love Back 40, Splurge, Susan Fahey Jewelry… the list goes on! We’re constantly sending out recommendations in terms of shopping, dining, and local home technicians… we’re thrilled to be part of a close-knit community!

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

We’re constantly reimagining and rethinking our business. We love thinking of unique and imaginative experiences for our clients - this year we are buying a Metalios Group van for our clients to use around town, and we’re super excited to host mini pop-up events at the beach, kids’ sporting games, open houses, etc! We’re also launching a ‘Refresh and Relax’ program for our clients, where we will send our sellers a weekend away while we get to work and sell their homes.

We have sold hundreds of homes and after each closing, we sit down as a group and talk about how and what we could have done to make the client experience better. Right after, we put the systems in place to make those things happen. I personally love brainstorming with our team members on ways to reimagine and iterate to make our experience unforgettable. Sixty percent of our business is actually referral-based, so it’s proven our process is working - we love thinking of these ideas and watching them come to life!
