Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT, Hinoki Greenwich!

Four questions with K Dong, owner of Hinoki Greenwich.

Why did you start your business?

After working in the restaurant industry as a youth, in my family business, I had experience with working in all different aspects both front and back of the house which was really fulfilling. When I started working with Chef Steven at KUMO in New York I quickly advanced to a partner position and eventually, we opened our new restaurants in Connecticut.

What is your best-selling product/service?

We provide the highest quality Asian cuisine in the area. Our team is also known for customer service and beautiful interiors. Our best-selling product is really the experience that our customers enjoy when they're dining with us or when we cater. We are always striving to improve and meet our customers' expectations.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

At our restaurants in Westchester and Fairfield County, we partner with nonprofit organizations to give back to the community and to also show our appreciation to our customers by supporting the organizations that they are most passionate about. Since we opened MIKU on Greenwich Avenue two years ago we've partnered with national organizations through their local chapters and have raised thousands of dollars through special menus that we create with the nonprofit's programs and initiatives in mind. In addition to giving back to the community, we employ dozens of employees from the local area.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

We are always reimagining our products and coming up with something different to feature on our special menus. Right now our cocktail program at Hinoki is where we are experimenting the most, we are also in the process of launching a brunch that will be unlike anything else in Fairfield/Westchester county. We strongly suggest that you follow us on social media to be the first to know!

K Dong and Hinoki Greenwich nominate Danielle Claroni & Christian Perry at Sotheby's Greenwich to be featured next!
