Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT JMalYoga!

Four questions with Jaime Maldonado, founder of JMalYoga.

Why did you start your business?

After struggling with fertility for a few years, I decided to take the yoga teacher training to focus on something other than trying to get pregnant and to deepen my own practice. I had no intention of teaching.

The training experience was so profound and helped me so much that I created a series of yoga classes to support women who were also struggling with fertility. Teaching yoga is incredibly fulfilling and it is my pleasure to bring the practice to my hometown and surrounding communities.

What is your best-selling product/service?

My alignment-based, slow-flow vinyasa classes are the most popular. It is important to me that my classes are accessible for all levels, especially beginners or people who have never stepped foot on a yoga mat.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

I love partnering with Athleta in Greenwich to offer free yoga classes to the community.

I use a local shop https://www.beauty-alchemy.com/ for the handmade essential oil blends that I use in class. The owner Kara is also my photographer for my marketing.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

Supporting and empowering women is very important to me. Be on the lookout for a “women supporting women” group coming soon. You can find me @JMalYoga on Instagram and Facebook for more information.
