You're IT Divorce and Money Matters!

Three questions with Lili Vasileff, president of Divorce and Money Matters.

Why did you start your business?

Nearly thirty years ago, I went through a divorce with two small children, one of whom with special needs. My perfect world was crumbling out of my control. I had no idea what to expect from my ex-spouse or the legal process. I was overwhelmed by uncertainty and frightened to make financial decisions that would be long-lasting and final. I could not envision my own goals for the future.

Somewhere in the middle of my divorce, I suddenly realized that I was the only one who could empower myself to negotiate my outcome. Rather than let this transition destroy my family, I sought how to rebuild it and thrive post-divorce. Inspired by the opportunity to teach and coach others through a divorce, I helped create an entirely new financial profession called divorce financial planning, building a national organization of over 6,000 accredited professionals in the US and abroad.

Divorce financial planning for the future is an essential part of every divorce settlement. Separating or divorcing couples often face a significant financial transformation. The bottom line is that two households must now survive on the same dollars formerly supporting one. Transition is a critical time when you need the most help to understand the pros and cons of your financial options, how to set priorities, and when to reach a settlement with confidence. I am determined to make a difference for the better for divorcing families and couples. I hope that you find any of my 4 books on divorce helpful and educational.

What is your bestselling product/service?

Specializing in divorce, litigation support, and tailored wealth management services, I offer customized financial guidance. Drawing on my incomparable experience, I am sought after for my expertise in complex financial issues and called into divorce cases that have national recognition. I have strived for more than two decades to give clients a sense of confidence during difficult times. I have been fortunate and grateful to receive numerous prestigious awards for my pro bono services to individuals and nonprofits.

I work successfully with both couples and individuals before, during, and after divorce. For attorneys, I provide litigation support, serve as an expert witness, and consult behind-the-scenes for a case evaluation. My strategic value is as the “go-to” neutral expert by mediating uniquely challenging financial issues in cases that aim to settle. My best-selling product is my book “Money & Divorce: The Essential Roadmap to Mastering Financial Decisions”, published by the American Bar Association and available on Amazon.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

Over the years, I have worked with thousands of divorcing individuals and couples. My practice has centered on my meeting my clients' needs in areas of divorce financial planning before, during, and after divorce; mediation; collaborative divorce; financial forensics; expert testimony in court; prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, and wealth management. I believe that most people want expert guidance to make informed decisions. It is my hope that I can help you accomplish your goals with dignity, confidence, and a sense of security. Every divorce is unique, and so are you.
