Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT The Marketplace by Fofie & Mia’s!

Four questions with Megan Rombout, Manager of The Marketplace by Fofie & Mia’s.

Why did you start your business?

The start of this business was unconventional, in that there was a calling. A calling during a time of the unknown and fear. We had a calling to bring hope, encouragement, happiness, and help to a community that is coming back to life. We started during a time when no business should have started, but we were told by a greater power that it was time.

What is your best-selling product/service?

The beauty of thrift is that there is no “best seller”. Everyone is different so their view of treasure or “best-selling” is their own.

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure!

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We have a few local and small businesses that we help here and support at the store. One of them being an amazing artist, Jenna Wilusz, @jennawilusz who creates beautiful Christian-inspired art.

Another local artist that has actually helped us actually create some beautiful things in the store is, Andrew Kish, @kish_and_co.design, who not only is a brilliant carpenter but uses sustainable and reclaimed resources to produce his works of art.

We also recently started helping and supporting a foundation called Legacy Market Place, @legacy.mp, which consists of a beautiful mother and daughter team, Veronica and Delali, as well as other close friends and family of theirs. Their mission is to bring handmade items like jewelry, handbags, and more here. These products are handmade by Ghanian artisans with 100% of the proceeds going straight to schools in Ghana.

So, these are only a few that we support here. Our doors will always open to all who are looking for support!

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

Reimagined? With a thrift shop, we are ALWAYS reimaging. We are always getting new pieces, items, and people coming through our doors. Things will always be changed and reimagined here at The Marketplace because of that, but isn’t that what life is all about?

Megan would like to nominate The Famous Greek Kitchen to be featured next!
