You're IT JMC Getaways!

Four questions with Joseph Corrar, owner of JMC Getaways.

Why did you start your business?

In 1998, I embarked on my first of three cross country trips with two of my closest friends, we traveled coast to coast in a 1993 Jeep Wrangler that I bought in my senior year of high school. We began the trip from New York to Louisiana followed by Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and continued our journey up the coast of California. Made our way home through Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, covering 22 states in a little less than a month.

We stopped in cities like New Orleans, Dallas, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Taos, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Denver, etc. We also visited the Smokey Mountains, The Alamo, Carson National Forest, The Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park and so many other beautiful points of interest. We would take turns driving the jeep and often left the window of the hardtop open in the back of the vehicle so that we can clearly see the road behind us.

Everyone once in a while, of us, would yell out in excitement, what the hell are we doing?! At the time, I was 19 years old, we were innocent and inexperienced and we knew we had our whole life ahead of us. We also instinctively knew this was our golden moment as young men to explore and to live our dreams.

When we arrived at Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park, an overlook with a commanding view of the High Sierra and Yosemite Valley to experience the sunset, and bright stars above, I was changed forever. It was on that trip, that I knew I wanted to start a travel company that focuses on adventures and helping people create dreams and memories to last a lifetime.

What is your best-selling product/service?

The types of travel I generally handle (but not limited to) are customized road trips, US national parks, and North American tours, fully Independent travel (FIT’s), Europe tours and European FITS, river cruises, oceanic cruises, all-inclusive resorts, eco-resorts, honeymoons, and destination weddings. I’ve worked with large and small group travel itineraries.

I also specialize in the Caribbean, Mexico, Costa Rica, Belize, Hawaii, and ecologically friendly travel itineraries and excursions. I handle transportation such as rail travel, car rentals, airfare anywhere in the world.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

There are a few important local businesses that come to mind including Raphael’s Bakery in Greenwich, Greenwich Kempo Martial Arts School, ASF Promotions in Cos Cob, and Carman’s River Canoe & Kayak II in Brookhaven, NY.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

I am constantly in the process of reimagining, most recently rebranding my business from JMC Travel & Eco Tours to JMC Getaways. Our mission is to help people “See the World Near & Far.”

Joseph would like to nominate ASF PROMOTIONS to be featured next!
